Construction of the 72 km Phase 1 of the Hyderabad Metro system began in April 2012. The Nagole – Mettuguda (8 km) of the Red line and the Miyapur – SR Nagar (12 km) section of the Green line are ready and will open as soon as the state government & L&T agree to open it.

This phase involves the construction of 3 new lines on standard gauge tracks:

#1 – Green line – Miyapur – L B Nagar – 29.87 km

#2 – Blue line – JBS – Falaknuma – 14.78 km

#3 – Red line – Nagole – Raidurg – 28 km

Phase 2 of the project is currently in the proposal stage. As per the latest plan, Phase 2 will add another 83 km on top of the 72 km of lines being built in Phase 1. The Red & Green lines will be extended while one new line will be constructed:

New Line:

#4 – Purple line – Tarnaka – ECIL (7 km)

As per some news reports, a section of this line might be built underground.

Note: Official line color is yet to be announced.

#1 – Green line – Miyapur – BHEL – Patancheru (13 km)

#2 – Red line – Nagole – LB Nagar – Falaknuma – Shamshabad Airport (28 km)
